HKUST Enrollment Period – Queue-it FAQ

General

1. What is Queue-it and why is HKUST using it?

Queue-it is a virtual waiting room system that helps manage high traffic to online platforms. HKUST is implementing Queue-it during the enrollment period specifically for enrollment-related functions to ensure fair access and prevent system overloads when many students log in simultaneously. Other SIS functions are not affected by Queue-it.

2. When will Queue-it be activated?

Queue-it will be activated during peak enrollment times, especially when students begin submitting course requests via the Student Information System (SIS). It applies only to enrollment-related functions.

3. How does Queue-it work?

· When you access SIS during peak times, you may be placed in a virtual queue.

· You’ll see your position in line.

· Once it’s your turn, you’ll be redirected to SIS automatically.

4. What should I do if I’m placed in the queue?

· Stay on the Queue-it page and wait for your turn.

· Do not refresh or close the browser, as this may reset your position.

5. Can I access SIS outside of peak hours without Queue-it?

Yes. Queue-it is only triggered during high traffic periods and only affects enrollment-related functions. You can access other SIS functions normally at any time.

6. Is there any safety measure to ensure fairness of the new queueing system?

In the event that any malicious activity is detected, we reserve the right to cancel the corresponding course registration. We take these measures seriously to protect our students. If you believe your reservation has been cancelled in error, please contact our support team for further assistance.

7. What if I experience technical issues with Queue-it?

If you encounter problems, take a screenshot and contact Information Technology Services Office at cchelp@ust.hk with details.
