What is data desensitization?

Data desensitization is the process of altering or removing sensitive information from data in order to protect it from unauthorized access or disclosure. Data masking is one of the most common technique. It involves replacing sensitive data with a non-sensitive placeholder value, such as replacing a person's HKID with A123456(7).
