Manual certificate management

Manual certificate management is a service option for users who need to handle SSL/TLS certificates directly within their own environment. It is suitable for systems that require greater administrative control over certificate request, validation, installation, renewal, and replacement activities.

Getting Started

To request manual certificate management, please follow the steps below:

  1. Register your service domain (e.g., xxxxxx.ust.hk or xxxxx.hkust.edu.hk) in the DNS system.

  1. Generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR). (see instruction)

Note: Only 2048‑bit keys are supported. CSRs generated with 1024‑bit keys will not be accepted.

  1. Store your private key securely in a safe location.

  1. Select and complete one of the following online request forms:

  • [Recommended] New SSL Certificate Request Form (Link)
  • Legacy SSL Certificate Request Form (Link)
    • Important Notice: This form will be retired on December 31, 2026.
  1. Certificate issuance:

  • Once the certificate has been issued, it will be sent to you by email for installation in your environment.
