Protecting PDF Files by Password Encryption
We recommend using Azure Information Protection (AIP) for enhanced security of your files instead of just password protection.
Adobe Acrobat provides password encryption to limit access to pdf files and prevent unauthorized people from opening them. This is a commercial proprietary software for pdf editing. However, password-protected pdf files can be opened by the free Adobe Reader.

Note: multiple files encryption can be done directly, but decryption to multiple files is not available.
Don’t forget:
- Passwords must be kept properly as there is no way to retrieve forgotten passwords or otherwise open these files.
- You cannot add passwords to a signed or certified document.
- Strong encryption requires a strong password. Check out here tips on creating a strong password.
